Established in 1953, this local group co-operates with the Greater Manchester Archaeological Unit to carry out documentary research, geophysical survey and fieldwalking. Small scale excavations have been under way at the site of Gristlehurst Hall since 2003, to which volunteers are warmly welcomed. Their current dig takes place at Lowes Tenement, close to Park Farm in Walmersley, running from April to October.
The group has full reports from past digs available on their website.
