Scottish Place-Name Society

The Society, launched in February 1996, exists for the support of all aspects of toponymic studies in Scotland, and in particular the work of the Scottish Place-Name Database at the University of St. Andrews and the University of Edinburgh.

Northern Archaeology Group

A voluntary organisation, whose main interest is the Roman period, though members follow their particular interests. We have members involved in landscape archaeology and excavations. We also hold the extensive Roman collection of artefacts found by our divers on the site of the Roman bridge at Piercebridge.

English Historic Towns Forum

A membership organisation workinga cross all sectors and all disciplines to enhance and promote the interests of historic towns. the Forum’s events and publications focus on perennial and topical issues and offer a strong platform from which to lobby policy makers on behalf of historic towns and cities.

Pillbox Study Group

International Society engaged in the research and recording of small scale fortifications world wide. Publishes a newsletter. Holds occasional study days. International membership.

Society of Antiquaries of London

Our foremost archaeological society with an excellent library. In its fine premises next door to the Royal Academy, the Society acts as host to many other organisations and conferences, and plays an important role in providing a forum for archaeology and the historic environment.

Chepstowe Garrison, The
