Now entering our fourth summer season of survey, citizan works around the coast of England to record archaeology at risk of erosion in the intertidal zone. With regional teams based in York, Portsmouth and London we work on one of the largest archaeological sites in the country. From Neolithic footprints and Bronze Age trackways to Victorian shipwrecks and Cold War bunkers there’s something to suit everyone in our summer programme.
We provide a wide range of activities from guided walks and classroom sessions to hands-on survey in the intertidal zone. On the foreshore our volunteers learn traditional archaeological survey techniques alongside 21st century methods to create 3D models, interactive maps and off-set plans. The coast is changing rapidly, some times on a daily basis and exciting archaeology can be uncovered at anytime. So join Citizan on the beach to record some amazing sites before they are lost to the sea forever.
