Sedbergh & District History Society

The Society exists to encourage interest in and the study of the local history of Sedbergh, Garsdale and Dent and the surrounding area. We hold a regular programme of talks, outings, social occasions and special events including exhibitions.

Powysland Club

Programme of lectures October to May. Day-long excursions in summer. The club has its own library and publishes an annual journal, The Montgomeryshire Collections, as well as various other publications. The Club published a Millennium volume: An Historical Atlas of Montgomeryshire. In 2003 published Transportation by Montgomeryshire Courts 1788-1868 by Brian Owen

Trostrey Excavation Group

The 2005 season concluded the examination of the Neolithic and Bronze Age ritual burial complex at Trostrey Castle near Usk. Found below this were rectangular Neolithic houses. This project is now being written up and it is hoped that work will start on a new site in 2006.

Welsh Historic Gardens Trust

Programme of lectures and meetings. Publishes a newsletter and a journal ‘Gerddi’. Carries out the recording of parks and gardens throughout Wales. Also carries out documentary research.

Welsh Mills Society

The society was formed in 1984 with the aims of studying the wind and water mills of Wales advising on the preservation and usage and encouraging working millars.

Welsh Mines Preservation Trust

For the protection, restoration and research of old mine sites, especially buildings and structures, in Wales and the Borders.

Arbeia Society

A Society interested in the archaeology of the north-east, principally Arbeia Roman Fort. It includes the South Shields Archaeological and Historical Society. Helps organise digs at Arbeia and possibly other sites in the North-East.
