MonmouthThe Council for Independent archaeology is holding its annual get-together at Monmouth on Saturday the 30th August, and all archaeologists are invited to attend.

The meeting is held in conjunction with the Monmouth Archaeological Society, one of the most successful archaeological societies in the country, and the meeting will explore some of the secrets of its success.

Here you will be able to discover:

* How   to explore your local area – Steve Clarke and the neighbouring societies will be revealing how they explored   their area.

* Learn the latest tips and tricks of using a resistivity meter.   Many societies have bought the TR/CIA resistivity meter, and Bob Randall, who designed and manufactured the machines will demonstrate his latest techniques for producing vertical sections.

* How to buy your own Medieval town. Stuart Wilson did just this, when he bought the deserted Medieval town of Trellech — once one of the largest medieval town in Wales. In the afternoon, we visit the site of Trellech,   and Stuart Wilson will reveal how he plans to spend the next 300 years digging the town.

The meeting, which begins at 10.30, will be at the Monmouth Leisure Centre and will be combined with the AGM of the Council for Independent Archaeology.   The cost for the day is only £15 which includes which includes a light lunch.   Details from the CIA secretary Keith Forster,   e-mail [email protected] or telephone 01332 704148.   For full details, see the website,   www.independents.org.uk .
