Conferences, lectures and field trips.

The Sheffield Archaeological Forum is an educational society organised by the alumni of the University of Sheffield. Our aims are twofold. Firstly, to encourage a greater awareness and understanding of archaeology amongst the general public; and secondly, to encourage a reflexive approach to interpretation in archaeological circles; through the media of publication and open conferences.

Encourages and co-ordinates archaeological activity in Hampshire and in particular the participation of archaeological societies and the public.

A group based on members who attended an adult education class on the subject given by the project leader. Annual programme of lectures. Takes part in field work surveys. Has close links with Trust for Thanet Archaeology and helps with their finds processing.

Dedicated to encouraging the appreciation of archaeology and local history within North East Lincolnshire region and beyond.

Active amateur group. Monthly lectures, socials, excavation, processing and publications. Annual open weekend at Scadbury Moated Manor Site 9th and 10th September and at Poverest Bath House Site 15th & 16th July. Limited excavation for members and processing of finds.

Monthly meetings and summer outings.

A Previously unknown multi period site, initially uncovering an Iron Age Inner and Outer enclosure ditches with Roundhouse remains. Now revealing emerging evidence of continuous use and occupation since the last Ice Age.

Six illustrated lectures between October and March. The society assists at Crofton Roman Villa, Orpington, which is open to the public April to October. Weekend excavations. Volunteers welcome on local weekend excavations and as guides at Crofton Roman Villa.

The Trust aims to increase knowledge of & interest in archaeology with exhibitions, reference library, lectures, post-excavation sessions, fieldwork & ongoing projects

Probably Britain’s largest archaeological society, owns and operates no less than 6 museums/historic properties. Publishes three newsletters and a journal each year. Has an excellent library. Fieldwork for 2006 being planned on post-medieval site at Tide Mills, Newhaven, East Sussex. Opportunities for volunteers – free to members.

Programme of lectures and talks. Collating references to Roman road alignments reported in and around Hampshire. Rescue excavations from time to time. Annual training excavations when possible. Local History projects also in progress. Currently excavations on the Roman Road Winchester – London every Bank Holiday weekend from Easter to August, plus a training course.

The Society was founded in 2000 to investigate finds that had resulted from field walking on the south side of the Burton Hills in South Warwickshire.
