Planning a survey of pre-1870 buildings still surviving in the City, especially in the suburbs.

Canterbury Archaeological Society

Provides a series of winter lectures, and organises visits to archaeological sites and historic buildings. Also supports the Canterbury Archaeological Trust. Offers grants towards publication of research and writing up of history of local area. Published two Millennium lectures. Publishes histories of Canterbury almshouses and William Urry lectures on Thomas Becket.

CBA South East Region

Publishes two newsletters in spring and autumn. Conference in autumn. Provides grants for archaeological work and projects. Active in respect of archaeological issues of public concern.

Border Archaeological Society

Active fieldwork survey programme & geophysics. Major joint project with local history society researching medieval Berwick. Monthly guest lectures. Well resourced by recent lottery grant.

Kent Archaeological Society

Programme of lectures and excursions. Publishes ‘Archaeologia Cantiana’ and records and research reports. Members’ library. Runs a training excavation.

Hastings Area Archaeological Research Group

Programme of lectures and meetings. Publishes quarterly newsletter. Carries out excavations, field walking and research. Publishes Summer and Winter Journals. Open Days at excavation site.

Larne Archaeological Society

Two new sites given SMR numbers in Larne Area through our work over the past two years. An Iron Age Hillfort and an early Christian Rath. Three other sites still on- going which may or may not be given SMR numbers in the near future.

Hampshire and Sussex Border Archaeological Research Group

Group of freelance archaeologists and enthusiasts seeking to discover more of the history within the region in which they live. Investigates selected archaeological sites and themes in an area contiguous with the East Hampshire and West Sussex border. Concentrates on field reconnaissance, archive and survey work.

Guildford Archaeology and Local History Group

Programme of meetings during the year. Publishes newsletters, various archaeology and local history projects.

Holmesdale Natural History Club and Archaeological Group

Beedon Archaeological Group

The group was established to formalise the excavation that Victor Pocock has been running for the last 20 years. The site has produced evidence from the Bronze Age to Roman period. WARG, the society for Winchester archaeology and local history, promotes the study of archaeology and local history in the City of Winchester and the surrounding area, through meetings, walks, field walking, excavations, excursions and other events. It also provides work parties and other support for the Winchester Museums Service and develops training activities for volunteers

Windsor and Wraysbury Archaeological Group

Excavating a Saxon site in Wraysbury. Wholly voluntary group, small dig. Not suitable for students needing compulsory excavation experience. Finds are with Windsor Museum Collection.
