Silchester Roman Town Life Project

This will be the 15th season working on the Insula IX project at Silchester – a remarkable site because, unlike most large Roman towns in Britain, it was completely abandoned. The aim of the excavation, run by the Department of Archaeology, University of Reading, is to trace the development of the town from its origins before the Roman conquest, through to its abandonment in the 5th century AD. The minimum age for the field school is 16, and is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience. The cost includes all food 6 days a week, and campsite facilities. Places are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, and early application is advised as places fill up quickly.
