Poulton Research Project

Poulton is a multi-period rural site 3 miles south of Chester, which has been yielding evidence of 9500 years of human activity. Mesolithic Flints from 7500 BC, late Bronze Age/early Iron Age pottery and Human Cremations; Roman Pottery, brooches, coins, building material, window and goblet glass; Saxon Pottery; Medieval Graves (13/14thC) decorated floor tiles, buckles and coins; Civil War artefacts from the 1640?s. The project’s aims are to bring archaeology to the community and to provide a challenging experience for special needs groups to participate in. The project also provides training for students and volunteers. We aim to promote educational heritage through the archaeological excavations on site. We will be open during the summer (2006) for students. The cost for tuition is ?100 per week. The more weeks you work the cheaper it becomes. We will be open from the 3rd July to 8th September with other dates to be scheduled depending on demand. We are open all year round, please get in contact for more details.
