The Telford Historical and Archaeological Society (THAS) are a regisered charity (No. 512397). Founded in 1981 to exploit and promote the extensive historical and archaeological material which exists in the vicinity of Telford.
This aim is achieved by offering six meeting a year with guest lecturers. These are arranged on the first Thursday of each month (Oct-May).
The talk cover a wide variety of themes relating to local or regional topics and a balance is achieved with national and general subjects.
Also during this year, usually in early summer and September, we hold two outings. In September we concentrate on a particular feature – i.e. canals, churches, stately homes etc or areas such as the Clun Valley or Corvedale.

  1. My Father Mr. John Cooksey, wrote a book on brickyards – Brickyards of The Black Country – A Forgotten Industry. Unfortunately, in May this year he passed away.

His research took him far and wide around the country and whilst sorting through his vast amount of paperwork and photographs, I have come across a folder with documents and an article he wrote on Coalmoor Refractories, Ibstock Telford.

I was wondering if your Society would like these documents and photo’s, slides etc.
