Outer Hebrides Archaeology

Margaret and Ron Curtis provide guided tours of all the Callanish sites for visitors, and specialist groups (by appointment). Exhibition on archaeoastronomy always open (except Sundays). Fieldwalking continues, and 6 books, 8 mini-guides, postcards and a 20 minute video on the Callanish Stones have been published.
In 2006 the moon is at the end of its 18.6 year cycle. Once a month it is so low on the southern horizon that it can be seen behind the standing stones of all the Callanish circles. Thus it fulfils the purpose for which it was built. See covers of Current Archaeology nos 147 and 200.
