The group was formed in 1975 to investigate the archaeology of an area within a 10km radius of Haverhill, including parts of Cambs, Essex and Suffolk. Fieldwork is undertaken on Sunday mornings whenever possible, and is directed primarily to the non-destructive detection, identification and investigation of archaeological sites using various methods of field surveying and full liaison with the relevant County Council Archaeological services.
Anyone interested in committing their Sunday mornings on a regular basis to assist/ learn ‘in the field? would be very welcome. In addition to fieldwork, monthly lectures are held from September to April. These informal meetings are held at the Haverhill Town Hall Arts Centre, usually on the 3rd Tuesday of each month except January when the AGM is held.
