Other awards & grants
How do you get a grant for your work in British archaeology, and how do you apply for an award?
The main source of grants at present is the Heritage Lottery Fund which gives out grants at three different levels. The smallest but easiest is the Awards for All programme which gives grants of up to £5,000. The application form is only eight pages long and is available by ringing: 08456 002040, or can be downloaded from: www.awardsforall.org.uk. The second grant is the Local Heritage Initiative which makes grants from £3,000-£25,000. For an application pack ring: 0870 9000 401 - web details on www.lhi.org.uk. And finally there is the Heritage Lottery Fund itself, which involves a serious input of time but which will make seriously large grants. The helpline is on : 020 7591 6042 and the web site is www.hlf.org.uk.
Smaller, more specific grants are available from a number of bodies: the Society of Antiquaries; the Royal Archaeological Institute; the British Archaeological Association and the Roman Research Trust.
The British Archaeological Awards which comprise 14 awards which are made every other year - for details see below. Further details at http://www.britarch.ac.uk/awards/
